Department of Public Safety

Duties and responsibilities of the Department for Public Safety are:

 

  1. Monitors and provides advice in the field of public order and internal safety for organization structures of Ministry of Internal Affairs;
  2. Proposes, drafts policies and strategy, as well as ensures implementation of the legislation in the field of public safety, within the framework of the competencies of the ministry;
  3. Provides advice for cooperation between different groups for increasing of community safety;
  4. Proposes and drafts documents and guidelines for community policing, as well as cooperation between Kosovo Police and Private Security Services;
  5. Reviews applications related to arms, explosives, private security and civilian aviation security, and also to provide with respective recommendations;
  6. Maintains and updates the database in the area of responsibility of the department;
  7. Conducts regular assessment of public opinion on threats against public safety;
  8. Analyses and collects information in the field of public safety and reports on regular periodic bases;
  9. Undertakes/carries out negotiations with states for signing memoranda/agreements of understanding for the area of public order and internal security.

Department of Public Safety is organized in four divisions:

  1. Division for Arms Ammunition and Explosives;
  2. Division for Civil Aviation Security;
  3. Division for Private Security Services;
  4. Division for Community Safety;
  5. Division for Research and Statistics,  
  6. Division for Prevention and Reintegration of Radicalized Persons, and
  7. Division for Critical Infrastructure.
