The mission of the DCS is to coordinate and oversee policies, as well as to provide advice and recommendations related to community safety in the Republic of Kosovo.

• The DCS collects, analyses and compiles reports on public safety threats;
• Drafts, initiates and develops plans and activities that strengthen inter-community co-operation as well as co-operation between local and central institutions;
• Initiates (re)establishment and supports the executive councils of (MCSC, CSAT and LPSC) and establishes, maintains a database of security forums.
• Manages the coordination office as well as organizes and coordinates security forums training.
• Drafts and plans awareness campaigns.
• Introduces MIA-DSC to public forums and conferences.
• Serves as the focal point for security forums (MCSC, CSAT and LPSC).
