Department of Citizenship, Asylum and Migration

Duties and responsibilities of the Department for Citizenship, Asylum and Migration shall be following:

 

  1. Proposes, drafts and ensures the implementation of policy documents and strategies in the field of migration;
  2. Proposes initiation of procedures for drafting of the legislation in the field of migration, drafts the legislation in question, in accordance with EU legislation and international standards, and ensures its implementation;
  3. Collects, analyses and evaluates data in the field of migration, and drafts reports;
  4. Contributes to the drafting and implementation of bilateral agreements in the field of migration;
  5. Reviews and takes decisions on applications for the acquisition of, and release from citizenship, international protection, as well as for residence of foreigners in the Republic of Kosovo;
  6. Supervises the Centre for Asylum and Detention Centre for Foreigners;
  7. Provides support for the return of foreigners to the country of origin or third country;
  8. Accepts, reviews and verifies the requests for readmission of the citizens of the Republic of Kosovo, persons of third countries or Stateless persons and submits the requests for readmission with other countries, according to the Readmission Agreements;
  9. Gives consent for issuing a visa upon the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and reviews and decides on visa extension applications inside the country;
  10. Cooperates with the Directorate for Migration and Foreigners at the Kosovo Police in the prevention of illegal migration;
  11. Cooperates with local and international organizations, returning countries and foreign diplomatic representatives, in the field of migration.

  2. Division for Asylum;
  3. Division for Foreigners;
  4. Division for Readmission and Return;
  5. Division for Managing Data on Migration;
  6. Centre of Asylum-seekers;
  7. Detention Centre for Foreigners.
