Speech of the Minister of Internal Affairs at Graduation Ceremony of 59th Generation of Kosovo Police

Prishtina

18.04.2024

On the occasion of the graduation of the 59th generation of Kosovo Police:

Distinguished President, Mrs. Osmani,

Distinguished Prime Minister Kurti,

Distinguished Deputy Prime Ministers,

Distinguished Director of the Police, Mr. Hoxha,

Distinguished Director of AKI, Mr. Ajeti,

Distinguished ambassadors and representatives of the diplomatic corps,

Distinguished participants,

Dear cadets,

I am very happy to be here today with you, to mark together this important day for the Kosovo Police and for our Republic.

From today, you will be part of a large organization, built on the principles of equal service for all our citizens and guaranteeing the rule of law and order in every corner of the territory of the Republic of Kosovo. Today, here in front of us, in front of your family members and our entire country, you will swear to respect our Constitution and protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of our country by serving impartially with professionalism, responsibility and honesty. These are the clear principles and values of the Kosovo Police that you should abide by in every day of your work.

Our police force, a part of which you are from today, enjoys gratitude and appreciation of our society, achieved thanks to the unstoppable work of entire generations for making it stronger and better.

Dear participants,

In today's ceremony, we cannot but note the absence of the Deputy Director of the Kosovo Police from the Serbian community, Dejan Jankovic. He was detained yesterday and is being held without any explanation in Raska, Serbia. This is an unprecedented act by Serbia, among many actions and attacks directed at the Kosovo Police.

This is a direct attack by Serbia against members of the Serbian community within the Kosovo Police who found the will and courage to join us on the common path aiming service and security for all citizens and stability of our country.

Dear cadets of the Police, especially you from all the communities,

Our Republic is also yours, our country is common and every day of our work must be dedicated to its strengthening. In the challenges that you may face from today onwards, we will be your support, as we have been to your colleagues when they were threatened or in danger in their duties.

From today onwards, all of you will carry the noble mission of service with honor and responsibility to our citizens. You will be the door of help, hope and solution in difficult and critical moments for our citizens; therefore, your mission is sacred.

The road before you has been paved by the unstoppable work of thousands of members of our Police of the 58 generations before you. Serve with honor and responsibility; this is the request with which I address you today, and on these values you will raise yourself, the Police and our Republic.

Dear family members who are here today when your sons and daughters are taking a new step in life,

We are grateful to you for raising and educating your children to serve the citizens and our country. Our country has historically emerged victorious despite the ferocity of those who wanted our territory thanks to the sacrifice of our sons and daughters.

The Kosovo Police is the continuation of efforts for a free and equal state for all. Our history has martyrs who fell fighting for freedom and liberation, while there are also members of the police who in freedom sacrificed and became heroes for the protection of the lives of our citizens, our sovereignty and our territorial integrity.

Dear cadets,

Let me express here today my full support and readiness for the accomplishment of common goals. Every day of our work as institutions is in function of raising and strengthening your capacities. My door will always be open to you in order to address any problem that may challenge you and our society.

Congratulations on your graduation and I am convinced you will serve without distinction and without sparing yourself.

Thank you!
