The Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Xhelal Sveçla, today received the United Kingdom Minister of State for Countering Illegal Migration, Mr. Michael Tomlinson and his delegation.

At this occasion, Minister Sveçla expressed his gratitude for the continuous support of the United Kingdom on building and strengthening the capacities of our Ministry, and welcomed him on his first ever visit to the Republic of Kosovo. Countering illegal migration remains a priority of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and therefore Minister Sveçla informed Minister Tomlinson about the concrete steps that the MIA has undertaken in this regard.

Minister Tomlinson congratulated Minister Sveçla on the work, willingness for cooperation, and in particular the involvement of the Republic of Kosovo in the joint task force with Albania and the United Kingdom in countering illegal migration.

After the meeting, the two ministers and their delegations visited the National Border Management Centre, where Minister Tomlinson closely saw the modalities and capacities through which officers engage in border management. Afterwards, the two ministers and the delegations visited the border crossing between Kosovo and Albania in Morine.

There, they observed the work of the border police and assessed the current border management and control capacities.
