UNDP donated specialized equipment to the Kosovo Forensics Agency

In the Kosovo Forensics Agency of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the acceptance-delivery ceremony of specialized equipment, which will serve in the advancement of forensic and ballistic examinations, donated by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) was held in Kosovo.

This ceremony was attended by: The Chairman of the State Commission for Small and Light Weapons, at the same time Deputy Minister of the Interior, Mr. Blerim Gashani, the permanent representative of UNDP in Kosovo, Mr. Nuno Queiro, the director of the Kosovo Agency for Forensics, Mr. Blerim Olluri, diplomatic representatives of the countries that have financially assisted the donation, as well as high local and international officials.

On this occasion, Deputy Minister Gashani emphasized that the Republic of Kosovo is committed to implementing the action plan of the Regional Roadmap, because we consider that through this implementation, Kosovo contributes to the advancement of national and regional security and together with neighbouring countries we successfully coordinate the fight against illegal arms trafficking, and increase the efficiency of the control of SALW.

Gashani pointed out that precisely the National Strategy and the Regional Roadmap have united even more the countries of the Western Balkans, as well as the financial support for its implementation has increased, and as a result of this, the successes so far are very evident.

Speaking about today's UNDP donation, Deputy Minister Gashani emphasized that ballistics analysis is an important part of criminal investigation and forensics, and involves the study of firearms, bullets and ammunition to identify links between weapons and various criminal incidents.

"The donation of microscopes and borescopes to the Forensics Agency is a valuable and useful initiative to improve the forensic-ballistic capacities in research, evidence and analysis of various criminal evidence acceptable and professional in the judicial process", emphasized Gashani.

For this, he finally thanked UNDP for the unreserved support for all the achievements in the field of control of SALW. He said that from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the National Commission for Small and Light Weapons, we assure you and express our willingness to continue working together to make our country a safer country and thereby contribute to the rise of security for our region and the EU.

The permanent representative of UNDP in Kosovo, Mr. Nuno Queiro emphasized that the Kosovo Agency for Forensics has demonstrated a general level of professionalism and expertise, especially in the field of ballistic examination of firearms.

"Through their diligent efforts and meticulous approach, they have established themselves as a reliable and vital resource in the investigation and analysis of firearm-related incidents," Queiro said.

He emphasized that it is essential to ensure that the Kosovo Forensic Agency remains up-to-date with the latest trends and advancements in ballistics examination to maintain a high level of professionalism and effectiveness.

While the director of the Kosovo Agency for Forensics, Mr. Blerim Olluri thanked everyone for the donation, which he said will improve the services provided in this agency and increase capacity within this institution.
