MIA held a press conference regarding the return of 11 citizens from the conflict zones in Syria

A press conference was held at the Ministry of Internal Affairs regarding the return to the Republic of Kosovo of 11 citizens from the conflict zones in Syria. Participants in this conference were the Minister of Internal Affairs, at the same time the National Coordinator against violent extremism and terrorism, Mr. Xhelal Sveçla and the General Director of the Kosovo Police, Mr. Samedin Mehmeti.

In his speech before the journalists, Minister Sveçla announced that the return of these citizens, where among them are four children, was done in close cooperation between the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo and the United States of America. "With this action, Kosovo, as a member of the Global Coalition, proves that it is a committed partner and ready to fulfil legal obligations, both domestic and international," said Minister Sveçla. He further stressed that all persons who have taken part in the fighting in the conflict zone, have committed crimes as well as those who have been involved in any capacity in terrorist organizations, will be brought to justice.

On the other hand, he stressed that: "we will take all necessary actions together with the relevant institutions, to provide full support for their rehabilitation and reintegration into society." Whereas, the General Director of Kosovo Police, Mr. Samedin Mehmeti said that thanks to such commitments, it has resulted that the current situation is much different, unlike the situation of 2013 and 2014.

He announced that during this operation, a total of 11 people were returned, including six men, a woman and four children.

He also stressed that so far, a total of 253 people have returned from the conflict zone, of which 130 men, 39 women and 84 children. In the end, it was emphasized that the security situation in our country is calm and stable, while the Kosovo Police remains committed to its mission and tasks, to continuously engage in fulfilling the activities and objectives set out in the Strategy for preventing the spread of violent extremism and radicalism.
