Genc Metaj was born on May 20, 1979 in Prishtina.

Mr. Genc Metaj has been a member of the Kosovo Liberation Army, the Kosovo Protection Corps, the Kosovo Security Forces, and the Emergency Management Agency within the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Mr. Metaj graduated from the Faculty of Law in Prishtina in 2008, and in 2013 he completed his Master's degree in Leadership Studies at the University of Texas at El Paso, United States of America. In 2010, he completed his training as an American English Instructor, with a focus on military terminology, also in the United States of America. From his military studies, in 2013 he completed the Sergeant Major Military Academy in the United States.

He has completed a large number of military and civilian training and courses, participated in many international conferences and seminars in the field of security, and lectured at several military academies of NATO member states.

Mr. Metaj has held several leadership and managerial positions in the Kosovo Army. He has over ten years of experience at the strategic level in the Kosovo Security Forces, where he held the highest position of Chief Sergeant Major of the Army, being responsible for approximately 2,500 members. Before his appointment to the position of Secretary General, Mr. Metaj served as Executive Director of the Emergency Management Agency in the Ministry of Interior.

For his professional work and dignified representation of the Republic of Kosovo, Mr. Metaj has been awarded several times by local and international institutions, including:

·         “Distinguished Service Medal”, presented by the Commander of the Iowa National Guard, for leadership and cooperation in advancing the State Partnership between the Kosovo Security Force and the Iowa National Guard.

·         Inauguration in the “International Hall of Fame”, for excellent performance and as a distinguished student at the Sergeant Major Academy.

·         “Distinguished Service Medal”, presented by the Minister of Defense for special contribution to the restructuring and modernization of the Kosovo Security Force.

·         “‘The Future Starts Here’ Medal”, presented by the Commander of the Kosovo Security Forces for high academic achievements and mastery of the curriculum.

·         “Honorary Citizen” of the city of El Paso, Texas, USA, proclaimed by the Mayor of El Paso for dignified representation of the Republic of Kosovo in the international arena.

·         “Service Medal”, presented by the Commander of the Kosovo Security Force Kosovo.

·         “Medal for Meritorious Service” in the Kosovo Protection Corps.

Mr. Metaj is married and has two children.
