A training session is being held at the Ministry of Internal Affairs for officials who will begin their work in Gjilan, Prizren and North Mitrovica, as part of the full implementation of the Law on Foreigners, which will enter into force on 15 March 2026.
The opening of the training was attended by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr. Xhelal Sveçla, who welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of this training for officials who will be responsible for implementing the provisions of this law.
Minister Sveçla pointed out that, both during the information phase and throughout the full enforcement of the legal provisions, the approach of Kosovo’s institutions will be constructive and citizen-oriented, with the aim of serving both citizens and foreign nationals visiting Kosovo through procedures aligned with European standards and practices, ensuring security, transparency and equal treatment without discrimination.
During the meeting, Minister Sveçla also stressed the importance of professional capacity-building for officials, noting that the better prepared they are, the more effectively the institutions will serve as a model for law enforcement, with a positive impact on all citizens and visitors to Kosovo.
This training is being conducted within the priorities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for decentralizing services related to applications for residence permits, following the end of the information period after 15 March 2026 for the implementation of the Law on Foreigners, as a first step toward bringing services closer to citizens and with the long-term goal of their future digitalization.
